Specialist Certificate in Shadow Teaching

The Specialist Certificate in Shadow Teaching is designed in mind for individuals aspiring to work with children with special needs. A shadow teacher is a facilitator who enables a child to stay on task despite having learning disabilities. It is imperative for a shadow teacher to have knowledge of learning disabilities and the skills to handle it. In recent years, there has been a great demand for shadow teachers across the globe.

What does a Shadow Teacher Do?

The shadow teacher supports the student in many ways, including filling in the gaps that exist in the learning process, helping the student build self-confidence, promoting interaction in the classroom, and ensuring the student stays focused and on task in the classroom. The shadow teacher helps the student be prepared and organized for class, enabling the student with the approaches for optimum learning.

Introduction to Specialist Certificate in Shadow Teaching

This certification deals with the understanding in providing additional support, throughout the school day, academically and psychologically for a child with learning needs. The five areas under which the functions of the shadow teacher fall are curriculum planning, instruction, behavior management, social skills management, and team working (Dizon, 2002).

During the course of studies, students must complete practicum attachments at selected therapy centres where they will interact with children and youths with special needs.
