Introduction to Music Therapy

Workshop Details

Music Therapy is the systematic and evidence-based use of music to achieve individualised therapeutic outcomes within the context of a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional (American Music Therapy Association).

It is an emerging allied health profession in Singapore.

This seminar will introduce you to the reasons why music therapy exists, who may benefit from it, how it looks/sounds like, how it is like to work with a music therapist, and the training requirements to become a music therapist.

Eta LAUW is a Registered Music Therapist with a Masters in Music Therapy from the University of Melbourne.

Eta’s professional practice includes children with developmental delay in special schools, trauma, dementia and individuals who wish to seek a greater sense of well-being and connection.

As a clinician who strongly believes in culturally-centred practice, Eta believes in authenticity and the use of emotional and musical connections to foster personal development and to encourage community integration and bonding.

Eta is passionate about her work in music therapy and has presented in conferences and conducted workshops for her work in dementia and children with special needs. She is an experienced trainer and lecturer, who has developed and delivered course content relating to music therapy, music strategies and the relationship between music and health. She has also contributed articles on culture and music therapy in Singapore in peer-reviewed journals.
